Radiation Oncology

About the Department:

The Department of Radiation Oncology started in the year 1988, has a  heavy work schedule daily, catering to patient services as well as taking part in academic and research activities. At all times, there are a number of research projects going on.  The faculty and residents have a number of paper presentation and publication to their credit.  The Institute organizes a large number of interdepartmental teaching sessions and there is active participation by the Radiation Oncology department. All these activities are supported by an enthusiastic group of technical staff.

High Dose Rate Brachytherapy Unit(Microselectron)

Plato 3 Dimensional Treatment planning system

In High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (PLATO), we give intracavitary radiation treatment in Carcinoma Cervix, Carcinoma Endometrium, etc; intraluminary radiation treatment in Carcinoma of Oesophagus, bronchus etc; interstitial implants in Carcinoma of Tongue, buccal mucosa, breast etc.

Treatment plan

Specialised procedures:

We acquire CT images in treatment position on a flat table with immobilization devices, with or with out CT contrast agents. In CT simulation (SOMAVISION) patient’s tumor contouring is done in 2 to 5mm slices and three dimensional tumor volume is created along with adjacent critical organ marking.

Soma vision Virtual simulation Varian medical systems

The tumor contours and critical organs are delineated and the beams are planned to deliver planned radiation dose to the tumor and limiting tolerable doses to the critical structures in 3D-planning System(CADPLAN).
