As per the Act, NIMS  has a Governing Council  as its  supreme authority.  The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh is the President  and the Health Minister,  the Vice President. This helps  to have close  contacts with the authorities in developing NIMS. 

For a close supervision of the activities during shorter spells, NIMS has an Executive Board with seven members presided by Health Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

In addition  NIMS has  an Academic Council  with a strength of 35 members for advising and approving  the Academic Programmes of this Institute. 

The flow of funds and their utilisation are closely monitored by another statutory body, viz., Finance Committee.  Similarly the  management has “Purchase Committee” and “Works Committee”  for monitoring the purchase of materials and works executed.

An Ethical committee  which is functioning as per WHO and ICMR guidelines is  formed for research projects.  In addition another committee is being formed  with the Director as the Chairman for academic and service accountability and for practising and promoting ethical standards.  Medical audit sessions are conducted regularly picking up atleast two topics per session.

The Chief Executive of the Institute is the Director, who is also the Academic Officer.  He exercises general supervision and control over all  the affairs of the institute and its activities.  He is assisted by several officers of the Institute.
