College of Nursing - Activities

College of Nursing is an integral part of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, was established in the year 1991, and running successively, progressively day by day. Presently it is offering Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master Of Science In Nursing with different specialties, and also a programme study centre for IGNOU, Post Basic B.Sc (N). 

M.Sc (N) is a two year course with the intake of twenty one (21) per annum into three specialties viz Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, Child Health Nursing and Community Health Nursing. B.Sc (N) is a four year degree course with hundred (100) intake per annum, only for female. For both the programmes following Indian Nursing Council (INC) prescribed Syllabus. IGNOU is offering 3 years post basic B.Sc (N) through our college with intake of 30(thirty) per annum. G.N.M Course is at verge of closing.

TEACHING PROGRAMME

         Principal, three faculty members and clinical instructors involved in teaching program. Teaching activities goes on with lectures, demonstrations, return demonstrations and clinical teaching. 

         Principal and faculty are involved in research activities in guiding the M.Sc (N) II year research projects as part of their academic programme. These projects have NIMS Institutional Review Board approval. 

CLINICAL PROGRAMME

         Students are provided clinical experience as per Indian Nursing Council (INC) guidelines. Students will be posted in NIMS for Clinical experience and also posted in Govt. Maternity Hospital, Niloufer Children’s Hospital, Govt.General and Chest hospital, Institute of Tropical and Communicable Disease, Osmania General Hospital, Govt.ENT Hospital, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to get clinical experience in other unit which are not present in NIMS.  

WORKSHOPS ORGANISED

         Mrs.Sailaja. S and Mrs. B.Padmavathy lecturers organized Paediatric Neurosurgery nurses programme as part of Neuro Pedicon 2010 on 17/11/2010. Mrs.Sailaja.S Lecturer, Mrs.N.K.Latha, and Mrs. Y.Venkatalaxmamma clinical instructors, Ms.Prathyusha, B.Sc(N), Mrs. IndiraM.Sc(N), Ms.Geetha M.Sc(N) students  presented papers on different topics. Principal, faculty and all the students took part in it.

         Organized one day CNE programme on International Nurses Day May 12th 2011. Principal unfolded the theme “Closing the gap – increase access and equity”.Mrs. Sailaja.S Lecturer & Mrs.Vinoda Lakshmi Head Nurse, M.Sc(N) II Year students organized panel discussion. Mrs.N.K.Latha clinical instructor organized quiz programme for nurses. Mrs. Elizabeth staff nurse, Mrs.Nageswaramma Staff Nurse etc.. presented on different topics.

         Organised one day educated programme on international Nurses Day on May 12th2012. M.Sc(N) I Year students organised panel discussion on “Closing the gap – from evidence to action. 

WORKSHOPS ATTENDED

         Mrs.  Marina Richards, Mrs. G. Hepsibah and Mrs. B. Rukmini Nursing Tutors of College of Nursing delivered guest lectures on first aid and bandaging, administration of oral medication and cold and hot applications and care of wounds at one month certificate course in Basic Issues in Geriatric Care organized by Alzheimer’s  and related society of India (ARDST)  at Asha Hospital, Jublee Hills on 4th February 2010

         Mrs. G. Saraswathamma C/I and Mrs. T.V.S. Devi C/I attended  workshop on Nursing Practice organized by Aghakhan Foundation at Osmania College of Nursing from 05/01/2011 to 12/01/2011.

         Mrs. Devi Satyanarayanamma attended one day sensitization  programme for family care givers of dementiated elderly at NIMS on 26/02/2011.

         IV year B.Sc (N) students and teachers participated in work shop on “ Healing with Human Touch” organized  by  Sri Satya Sai trust  at IICT, Tarnaka.

         Faculty & Students took part in world Hepatitis Day Celebrations at NIMS Learning Centre on 28th July 2011 and 3rd year B.Sc(N) students participated in world diabetes day programme on  13th November 2011.

         4th year B.Sc(N) students participated in National Conference at University of Hyderabad Gachibowli on theme “Simulation on Nursing Education” on 17th & 18th September 2011 .Our students participated in quiz programme and won first prize

         B.Sc(N) students attended cardiology CME on cardiac diseases in women and present trends. Witnessed CPR demonstration and Students participated in quiz competition and won the prizes.

         4th year B.Sc(N) students participated in National Conference at University of Hyderabad Gachibowli on theme “Simulation on Nursing Education” on 17th & 18th September 2011 .Our students participated in quize programme and won first prize

         Faculty & Students took part in world Hepatitis Day Celebrations at NIMS Learning Centre on 28th July 2011 and 3rd year B.Sc(N) students participated in world diabetes day programme on  13th November 2011. 

PARTICIPATION IN HEALTH PROGRAMMES

         Principal attended as Guest of Honour for Lamp lighting and Graduations ceremony of  Care School of Nursing,  Organized at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan, Secunderabad on 16th March 2011.

          On the occasion of International Nurses Day, Osmania Medical College organized a poster presentation.  IV year B.Sc(N) students took part in it and won first prize.

         4th year B.Sc(N) students attended eye donation camp at peoples plaza on 7th September 2011

         B.Sc(N) III year students participated in world population day celebrations at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan on 11th July 2011 organized by DMHO of Hyderabad. participated in eye donation camp at SD Hospital on 6th September 2011.

B.Sc(N) Students attended brain tumor awareness walk conducted at necklace road, which is organized by The Department of Neurosurgery, NIMS.

         School health camp conducted by 4th year B.Sc(N) Students as part of their academic programme AT St. Issac Adventist School, Borabanda, Hyderabad.
